Fin Whale encounter

There once was a whale called Michael Finnegan

He blew out and then blew in again

Then grew whiskers on his chin again

Poor old Michael Finnigan, begin again…

The second largest whale after the Blue Whale and can reach 89 feet (27 meters) and weigh 74 tons yet still reach speeds of 15 knots and some say 25 knots. They are the fastest of the baleen whales and known as ‘The Greyhound of the Sea’ with their sleek streamlined shape. They’re diving ability extends to 1800 feet – deeper than the waters around San Juan Island. 2015 was the first visit of a fin whale to San Juan Island for over 100 years.
