April 9th – Headed South at noon into heavy fog which accentuated the roaring sea lions of Whale Rocks and the flurry of bird activity as eagles dove into bait balls in the ebbing waters of Cattle Pass. We progressed North but turned when the current turned to flood as we heard a report of transient orcas appearing in the clearing fog at Salmon Bank . Clearing 12+ knots riding the flood through Cattle pass we caught up to the T18s in San Juan Channel and boy was it worth it. Evening light, backlit blows, stealth maneuvers and a lucky stellar sea lion huddled tight against the shoreline with bated breath.
