We went south to Hein Bank looking for humpbacks and minkes, but instead found L85 all on his lonesome. Choppy seas and a fair wind brought us back to cruise the west side on a flood tide. L94’s were foraging on the west side. L121 gave a close pass twice with eye to eye contact – a moment of reflection to ones core. We met the J’s coming down from the north while we had supper in glassy seas north of LK Lighthouse. Sailing south from Jones Island a heavy black sky was lit from below as the sun set. A rainbow hung from storm clouds to the south and an electric ark of fork lightning danced for an instant across miles of horizon. Every trip is different.
