July 20, 2017 – Cut the lines and cast off on another adventure. Up San Juan Channel and into Presidents Channel to hug the stunning coastline of Orcas Island. We cruised up towards Lovers Cove before breaking off to cross the channel towards Pt Disney. With waters exceptionally deep at the point we gave the island a close pass as we all looked up high admiring the layers of rock above us.
A pod of Biggs/transient orcas known as the T37A’s were in the area heading west in Boundary Pass. We were all excited to get some good looks as the group made their way west in beautiful evening light.
After saying goodbye to the orcas we made our way into New Channel to check out more of our favorite scenery and wildlife locations. We found a great blue heron, black oystercatchers, harbor seals, bald eagles and some of the exotic animals roaming around on Spieden Island.
The sunset changed through an array of pastel colors as we sailed back to Friday Harbor. What a spectacular sail.
