May 26, 2018 – With news of the transient orcas known as the T65A’s down south we set a course for Cattle Pass. So many harbor seals were on the islands near Reef Pt and Danger Rock. Goose Island was busy with all types of cormorants flying to and fro while others sat on their nests. Sea lions were either frolicking or resting on Whale Rocks and a bald eagle stood guard near her nest as we continued south and onward to check out the coast of Lopez Island. Seeing whale watch boats in the distance we decided to go for it and extend the trip to see the orcas which were another 3 miles out. It was the best decision – paralleling beside this tight knit orca family was magical. Hearing their blows and admiring their beauty. The baby, T65A6, was popping up on his/her own continuously almost porpoising amongst the group at it’s own pace. You couldn’t help but smile at this amazing 32 yr old orca mom raising 5 offspring including a new calf.
