May 30, 2018 – We sailed south and out through Cattle Pass after a Lopez pick up. Goose Island was full of commotion as a pair of bald eagles flew over the nesting gulls and cormorants. As we drifted in the current we spotted a sea otter! We heard one was in that area about a week prior – it’s nice to know it is sticking around. We also found a bald eagle taking care of his/her chick who was just barely visible poking it’s head above the nest. As we sailed over Salmon Bank there were groups of birds feeding on various bait balls. Then we came upon another active eagle nest south of Lopez. It’ll be fun to monitor these eaglets growing up on future sails! Down and around Castle Rock before returning to Lopez.
