June 20, 2018 – There are so many islands in the San Juans to see. Today we cruised by some of favorites. With news of our Southern Resident Killer Whales headed north in Haro, we took Spieden Channel to catch the ebb to meet them at Battleship Island. The first group to pass us were the J16’s. The CWR said the little J50 isn’t looking well and may not survive – we were glad to see her tucked in next to her mom J16. Trailing by a short distance were the L47’s and L72’s. Stunning views of the orcas along the Stuart Island shoreline and underneath Lovers Leap. The orcas tail slapped as they headed to Canada, and we turned to sail along the Stuart shore to New Channel. While enroute we came upon more orcas from J pod spread out foraging. We heard a few vocals and echolocation. J31, J40, J38 and J45 passed by into the sunset while a few others foraged further offshore in the strait.
