June 25, 2018 – We reefed the main sail with strong winds when we left the harbor and caught the flood north. Drifting the south shore of Flattop Island we saw day 2 of eagle predation of a steller sea lion carcass. 10-20 bald eagles and many vultures were jostling their position and waiting for their turn. Another bald eagle and many harbor seals were resting at White Rock as we passed on route to Java Islets. Java Islets had a similar event with many eagles and turkey vultures gathered around a harbor seal carcass. The black oyster catchers seemed particularly upset of the eagles’ presence near their nests. We hugged the honeycombed shoreline of Saturna Island to Boiling Reef and sailed glassy seas to Presidents Channel for supper on our return. Spectacular sunset mirrored in the glassy seas.
