June 29, 2018 – Today proved that rainy days can be fun, too. As we left the harbor there were many orca sightings already on the radar. We decided to go north as there was a group of orcas coming down Presidents Channel on the north side of Orcas Island. As we arrived on scene, Barbara was the first to recognize and ID the orcas as the T124As – one of the calves pops up like a cork with each surfacing, something unique to this whale ever since it was first seen. Great group of orcas consisting of 3 generations traveling together including two little calves about a year old. We watched the orcas zig and zag through the maze of islands in San Juan Channel before breaking off to circumnavigate Turn Island. Many of the harbor seals appeared to be watchful of the orcas in the distance. We saw one mother and brand new seal pup around the corner from the group tucked away safely.
