June 30, 2018 – After picking up the Couch family from Orcas Island we took Spring Pass north with a good sail to Flattop Island. We drifted the south side of Flattop and caught the ebb out through New Channel along the shoreline of Spieden Island. This is a beautiful route for us to catch the tide and drift through wildlife rich areas. We photographed one peregrine falcon but when we got home we realized there were two as you can see in the photo below. Rounding the forested north slope to the grasslands of the south slope we circled the island finding many harbor seals fast asleep, while mouflon rams and others were foraging. Harbor porpoises were off Green Pt as we sailed a figure eight taking the north side of Flattop Island whilst enjoying the lee shores of paradise. We reefed the main sail for stronger winds ahead before sailing to Pt Disney. We were surprised to see multiple breaches from a harbor seal hanging out at White Rock. From the cliffs of Pt Disney we made speed across Presidents Channel before basking in the sunset light of the Orcas shoreline.
