July 9, 2018 – North passed Yellow and Low Island where harbor seals were with new pups. We sailed on to Cactus Islands and New Channel quite quickly as we knew T124A’s (minus T124A1 and T124A2’s) and T36A’s were in Haro Strait. We took the route through Ripple Island close to shore on the north side of Johns and Stuart Islands to meet the whales as they came into Boundary Pass. Zig Zagging, circling, milling. T36A1 took off on his/her own after a surprise surfacing next to us. T36A1 returned about 20 minutes later porpoising but still remained distanced from the main group. We distanced to pay a visit to Tilly Pt where an eagle was watching everything. Light misty rain enhanced the atmosphere. We spent a little longer with the whales as they turned south and then broke off to visit Turn Point and Lovers Leap. We followed the Stuart shoreline having supper when we reached New Channel. Many bald eagles were gathered on the Cactus Island.
