July 11 pm half day sail, 2018 – Cut the lines and set off on an adventure to ride the wind to some of our favorite places. We sailed close hauled to Shaw Island and tacked back and forth through the maze of islands near Shirt Tail Reef. There was a newborn harbor seal nursing on Low Island while groups of black oyster catchers flew around us doing circles. We continued north to Flattop Island and Gull Rock where we found many more harbor seals resting with their pups and several bald eagles. The pigeon guillemots were whistling, socializing and making big splashes as they frolicked along Flattop Island. We sailed over towards New Channel to explore the kelp forests and wildlife while drifting in paradise enjoying our supper. We hugged the Spieden coast with a strait shot down to Green Pt, top of Jones Island, through Pole Pass and onto the Orcas Ferry Landing to drop off our passengers. David and Barbara enjoyed the sail back in stunning evening light being accompanied part of the way by a great blue heron getting ready to roost for the night.
