July 22, 2018 – We set sail tacking back and forth up San Juan Channel through a maze of islands. Black oyster catchers, great blue herons, bald eagles and harbor seals scattered about along our journey. So many harbor seals basking in the sunshine on Flattop Island many with new pups. A bald eagle stood guard on White Rock as the harbor seals were out on break. We crossed over to the stunning cliff face on Waldron Island, Pt Disney before sailing across Presidents Channel to meet transient orcas heading our way. T34’s, T37 and daughter’s family the T37Bs had been milling on the west side of Sucia Island for hours. It was our lucky day that they headed down the channel on a perfect course to meet us. We admired the forested coastline of Orcas Island graced by the presence of orcas swimming beside it. It was the perfect addition to the perfect day sailing around the islands.
