July 22, 2018 – We picked up folks for our half day afternoon sail from Lopez Island. We hugged the Lopez coastline down towards Cattle Pass. We drifted inside of Deadmans Island passing the harbor seals and bald eagles before crossing the channel over to Goose Island. Many cormorants flying to/from their nests and gulls calling beside their new chicks. We continued around Cattle Point Lighthouse and onwards to Salmon Bank. We found a minke whale in the glassy seas with a stunning back drop of the Olympic Mountains. The minke whale zigged around the bank giving us many looks. We finished our dinner and made our way towards Long Island hearing the minke blows behind us. One of the two eagle chicks flew from his/her nest and was standing on a nearby tree. We cruised over to Whale Rocks and saw over a dozen black oyster catchers getting ready for bed. As we headed back towards Fishermans Harbor we were treated to beautiful evening light as the sun began to set.
