July 27, 2018 – Sailing Wing on Wing North In San Juan Channel. A Bald Eagle roosted on Wasp Pass Channel marker and we tacked to see Harbor Seals and their pups hauled out on Yellow Island. Drifted through New Channel passing Belted Kingfishers and looking for a Peregrine Falcon on the steep cliff face. Onwards to follow the shoreline of Stuart Island to Lovers Leap and from Turn Point Lighthouse with the help of the flood tide we crossed Boundary Pass coming into Canada at Tilly Point on Pender Island. We spotted Eagles with chicks on their nest on Blunden Island. Java Rocks was alive with eagles and Black Oyster catchers. We followed the Saturna shoreline layered like a cake to the eroded honey combed sandstone caves of Monarch Head. Head offshore we drift sailed with many many Harbor Porpoise. On to Skipjack Island and Bare Rock National Wildlife Refuges and around Waldron Island into Presidents Channel. The forested shoreline of Orcas Island was lit by the late afternoon sun and a smoky haze in the air from forest fires made for an eerie sunset.
