August 2, 2018 – North Wing on wing from forested Point Caution under the eye of a Bald Eagle. Stbd tack after passing Yellow Island and its off shore rocks where the Harbor seals haul out. North through Spring Pass with many harbor seals on the Jones Island side. Wing on wing to Flattop Island to Gull Rock to a beam reach into New Channel. Drifted close to shore in the perfectly calm waters bordering Spieden Island forest before easing out into the Cactus Islands and Ripple Rock. Bald Eagles and Harbor seals ruled this are of the world today. Nice fast sail took us quickly to Sandy Point where we reefed early in the lee of North Waldron Island. Sailed back out to Skipjack Island where we explored the steep cliffs carpeted with lichens and the coves and rocks ledges of Harbor seals. Passing the kelp forests and Bare Island NWR to find liter air off Presidents Channel. Harbor Porpoise popped up as we crossed Presidents Channel to the forested shoreline of Orcas Island and supper as we reached the head of Turtle Back Mountain. Came offshore for sailing in a magnificent sunset looking West over Spieden and the Cactus islands and the layered Canadian islands beyond.
