August 4, 2018 – Half day Sail South with the ebb passing inside the kelp forest of Turn Rock. Close hauled sail to Big Rock and followed the Lopez shoreline down to Sharks Reef, Kings Point and inside Dead Mans Island. Harbor Seals were lined up warming in the sunshine and Bald Eagles watched from the top of the rock. Drift Sailing out to Whale Rocks there are now many more Steller Sea Lions engaged in the show of dominance fighting and looked to be fighting over a female nearby. We caught the current and sailed on to the South side of Mummy Rocks where more Harbor seals were warming their bodies. On to Long Island where the Bald Eagle chicks are now moving around from their nest unruffling their feathers. Wrapped around Long Island and headed out to McArthur Bank. We met a Minke whale at the edge of the bank and travelled alongside. We witnessed the Minke whale feeding and showers of fish were thrown in the air as the Minke whale surfaced. We had supper while sailing in to Iceberg Point. Returned passing Hall Island Cormorant Rookery , Long Island to whale Rocks to Goose island with its many nesting Double Crested, Pelagic and Brandts Cormorants. Sunset as we sailed through Turn Island Pass with twilight entering Friday Harbor
