August 5, 2018 – We sailed North on the flood crossing San Juan Channel to check on the Harbor Seals and their new pups at Low Island. Passing the Juniper trees of Little McConnell we sailed North to Spring Pass hugging the shoreline of Jones Island. Continued wing on wing to Flattop Island National Wildlife Refuge with many seals warming on the honey combed limestone ledges. Pigeon Guillemots sang in high pitched whistles on the North side waters. And on to White Rock with its own large group of Harbor Seals resting and warming in todays sunshine. Flat mirror calm waters as we turned East towards the dynamic cliff ace of Point Disney. Followed the Madrone and Gary Oak shorleine of Waldron arround to the National Wildlfie Refuges of Bare Rock and Skipjack Islands where many more Harbor Seals were living in paradise. Crossed Presidents Channel to Orcas Island Point Doughty where we anchored and went ashore to a small cove with our Bullfrog tender. We explored the trails to the cliffs on the North East side and on our return our passngers found a Mink scurrying along the rocks. Sailing back to the North East side we searched for Peregrine Falcons but none found today. South along the Orcas shoreline in late afternoon light Bald Eagles and their nests stood out watching everything that passed by. Liquid gold sunset mirrored in the calm waters at the end of another spectacular day of viewing the San Juan Islands from a sailboat.
