August 10, 2018 – Short sail extended to half day. We left Friday Harbor quickly as the T18/T19 family of Transient Orcas had just passed the Harbor traveling North. We met them at Point Caution and crossed the channel together towards the islands of Wasp Pass between Orcas and Shaw Islands. T19C did his own thing, as he commonly does, circling and hunting between the rocks from Shirt Tail Reef to Nob Island. We had some dramatic views as he circled very close to the rocks where the harbor seals and pups were hauled out. We sailed wing on wing downwind as they continued along San Juan Channel passing close to shore at Jones Island state park. We continued to sail North with them and watched as they hunted again at Flattop Island and Gull Rock. We left them as they continued towards White Rock and we sailed close hauled against the tide. Passing back through the Wasp Pass Islands we noticed a Bald eagle on Shirt Tail Reef’s Channel marker.
