August 20, 2018 – We sailed North with news of the T99s and T65As heading North in Harro Strait. We sailed inside of Yellow Island and outside of Jones Island and on to the North side of Spieden island. Along with Harbor Seals and Bald Eagles today we found a family of 3 River Otters running along the rocks of the shorline. We hugged the shorline of Stuart Island all the way to Lovers Leap and Turn Point Lighthouse and crossed Harro Strait into Canada to Moresby Island. With news that the Tranisent Orcas were heading West into Sanich Inlet we knew we would not see them today .So we headed South to Raey Island and drifted through the pass between Brethour and Domville islands sailing down passed Cod Reef to Mandarte Island. We visited the Southern coastline of Mandarte, one of the largest Cormorant, Guillemot and Glaucous Winged Gull Colonies of British Columbia. Crossing back across Haro Strait we visited Sentinel Rock, some of the South Side of Spieden Island and then back into New Channel. We drifrted the flood tide through The Cactus islands to Ripple Island and then crossed to Flattop Island National Wildlife Refuge. Drifting through Nob Island Pass and todays visibilty was considerably muted by the smoky haze of the countries forest fires. Sunset was quite eerie with a solid red ball fading into the smoky haze.
