August 24, 2018 – We sailed north and then east through the pass at Nob Island and between the Wasp Islands into Harney Channel. We met the T99’s near the Orcas Island ferry terminal and traveled together west coming south of Crane Island passing Nob Island again and coming into San Juan Channel via Shirtail Reef. We left them for awhile to circle Yellow Island and rejoined them at Reuben Tarte. We then travelled together close to the San Juan shoreline in the back eddy of Spieden Channel. We left them at Barren Rock and headed to Sentinel Rock and Spieden Island. A bald eagle watched us pass into New Channel from the west point of Spieden Island. We found a peregrine falcon perched on the squiggly Gary oak tree at the top of the bluff. Harbor porpoises exhaled around us and harbor seals were curiously watching from the kelp forests. We sailed on to the north side of Flattop Island finding immature and adult bald eagles. Returned to Friday Harbor by way of Jones, McConnell and Nob Island.
