September 12, 2018 – Short sail South. Islands were draped in fog this morning as we headed south. Drifting passed Turn Island we met quite a number of Harbor Porpoise in the smooth water bordering the back eddies. Crossing to the Lopez shoreline with the benefit of the fast flowing ebb we cruised the forested shoreline finding Bald Eagle, Blue Herons and Black Oyster Catchers near Kings Point. Inside of Deadman Island many harbor seals rested barely raising an eyebrow as we drifted by. Out to Whale Rocks and many Stellers Sea Lions were sleeping late while others were playful. Long Island and another Bald Eagle watched the tide drift by. Then Mummy Rocks before crossing Cattle Pass to the Cormorant Colony of Goose Island So many seals lined up resting on the beach on the West side of Goose Island. Sun was burning off the fog and blue sky mirrored in calm waters of Griffin Bay with not a ripple in sight. Cut inside of Turn Island on the way home where we received a fly by of a flock of Green-Winged Teal.
