May 9, 2019 – A short sail around the islands. We left the harbor with light winds taking the inside of Brown Island and Turn Island. Many harbor seals were enjoying the low tide as they rested hauled out on the rocks.
The winds dropped off to nothing down towards Cattle Pass so we chose to go north with the current and winds in our favor. We had a fast close hauled sail doing 8+knots to Shaw Island. A bald eagle at the point near Hicks Bay watched us sail by and then tack towards Pt Caution. Reaching the San Juan Island another bald eagle watched us as we tacked toward Yellow Island.
Black oystercatchers chatted amongst each other on Low Island as we made a close pass near Yellow Island to see the wildflowers. We returned via Nob Island seeing harbor porpoise for a moment outside of Friday Harbor.
