June 18, 2019 – Extreme low tide with the full moon exposed many new islands in Wasp Pass and the Harbor seals took little notice as we sailed by. We moved North quickly with a report of the T65As North of Waldron Island. On White Rock ten plus Bald Eagles were waiting their turn for a meal on the rocks and a city of harbor seals were on the North exposed tip.
Avoided the strong currents against us by hugging the Waldron Island shoreline and met the T65As after Skipjack Island. T65A2 broke off from the others and popped up close to us as we sailed East. We travelled parallel and left them North of Patos Island.
Cruising the shoreline of Patos we found an active eagles nest with 1 large chick. Nearby was a nice large group of small Ochre sea stars (good to see them recovering from the sea star wasting syndrome of 2013/4) .
We crossed to Sucia and sailed by the honeycombed sandstone shaped cliffs before a fast sail in strong winds to Point Doughty. The Peregrine Falcon chicks have left the nest on their rocky ledge.
Sailed South in Presidents Channel counting bald eagles as we cruised close to the beautiful forest. We had our BBQ supper inside the shelter of Reef Island. Another epic day sailing with whales in the San Juan Islands.
