July 4, 2019 – It was another special day on the water exploring the sights in the San Juans. Four bald eagles were gathered waiting for a piece of leftovers near Shirttail Reef. Our passenger took the helm and sailed us wing on wing up the channel. The current was raging as we made it to the intersection south of Green Pt. Captain David thoroughly enjoyed this sail across in the choppy seas.
But, around the corner in New Channel, seas were calmer, but the tide was still moving quickly. We made slow progress against the tide as we enjoyed hugging the shore to find back eddies. We spotted various bald eagles and a Peregrine falcon.
Flattop Island was full of life today. Many more bald eagles gathered. Juveniles in trees, in flight, and an adult closed his eyes to take a nap. The layers in the rocks glowed in shades of gold and orange as the sun fell lower in the sky.
Capt David gave the passengers a thrill as he sailed at speed into Pt Disney before veering off to starboard. More incredible geology. After checking out some of the Waldon coast we sailed across to Orcas Island. With the cloudy skies the many shades of greens in the forest popped with vibrance.
Taking our time we sailed back into the harbor with minutes to spare as the fireworks show began. Pounding echoes were felt through our bodies as each firework went up. Exciting sounds and bright colorful reflections on the water. The fireworks show was amazing! Another EPIC day!
