July 15, 2019 – It was a phenomenal sail with so many whale encounters. First was a humpback whale identified as MMX0167 ‘Stitch’ milling near Boiling Reef.
As we were halfway up Georgia Strait we came upon T124C and some others, possibly the T124A’s (photos too distant to tell). Trailing those orcas were the T101’s, mother and three full grown adult sons. We sailed parallel to the whales for some time before breaking off towards East Point.
To our luck another group of orca were coming down Tumbo Channel. It was the T36A’s with the T36B’s. We watched as they hunted and shared their meal. One of the orca calves rolled a chunk of meat over his back.
We continued on towards Bare Island enroute back to the harbor. To our surprise the orcas caught up to us and we travelled together down Presidents Channel on the Waldron shoreline as the sun went down. As went went down San Juan Channel we watched the full moon rise.
