All Aboard Sailing

A fun family sail

July 27, 2019 – Wing on wing sail from Friday Harbor through Spring Pass passing Jones Island State Park. We followed the shoreline of Orcas Island to Camp Orkila and Pt Doughty.

Downwind sail to and around Bare Island and a slow drift passed Skipjack Island. Our pace of life slowed down to hear the calls of the eagles and eaglets, harbor seal pups, pigeon guillemots and black oystercatchers.

We sailed to the Waldron shoreline and followed it passing many diving birds… gulls, rhinoceros auklets and common murres. Slow drift near White Rock and dinner reservations at Flattop Island.

Conditions changed from flat calm to moderate southerlies up to 15 knots eventually as we passed Jones Island into San Juan Channel. We all felt the excitement healing under full sail tacking our way at good speed all the way back to Friday Harbor.
