July 29, 2019 – An adventure sailing to some of our favorite places and a visit with some of our favorite Biggs/transient orcas, the T65A’s minus T65A2.
We worked our way up San Juan Channel to New Channel where we enjoyed the beautiful forested coastline of Spieden Island. Crossing towards Stuart Island we encountered the orcas who appeared to be hunting off Reid Harbor. We sailed with them as they traveled closely along the Stuart shoreline letting them go at Turn Pt Lighthouse.
Crossing Boundary Pass into Canada we checked out the eagle chicks on Blunden Island and the wildlife on Java Rocks. Sailing by the dramatic cliff face on Monarch Head we spotted the orcas nearing Narvaez Bay. We sailed close to shore watching as the orcas again engaged in hunting and eating.
We started cooking supper and sailed back south towards Flattop Island. After dinner we had a nice sail down San Juan Channel into Friday Harbor.
