September 9, 2019 – What a fun sail with the most beautiful sky scapes! A humpback whale identified as MMX0007 aka “Bond” was circling south of Flattop Island giving us some breathtaking views.
We sailed North up San Juan Channel with Ribbons of mist weaving between the islands. Sailing out from the Wasp Islands we met the Humpback whale near Green Point of Spieden Island. After sailing a circle with the whale we continued North and West into New Channel.
We spotted a couple of river otters on the North side of Spieden Island. Cutting between the Cactus Islands and the edge of the kelp forests we passed Ripple Island and came East to Flattop Island. We spotted river otters at Flattop, too, as we drifted the North side.
Rain was on the horizon both to the East and the West but we were able to steer for the blue sky between and watch rainbows form over Turtle Back mountain. We met the humpback whale again as we headed South. Home by route of Spring Pass and Nob Island successfully avoiding the incoming rain.
