Full day sail to Mandarte and beyond

September 29, 2019 – Today we had an adventurous sail with our friends at Emerald Marine Carpentry (https://www.emeraldmarine.com). We sailed north up San Juan Channel through Spring Pass and to one of our favorite places, New Channel. White caps seemed to be poking up from all directions and the winds kept us moving all the way to Mandarte Island. Cormorants were busy flying to and from their roosts on the cliff ledges as sailed on by continuing up through Forrest and Domville Islands.

We came about tacking back across Haro Strait towards Stuart Island and along the south side of Spieden Island. Animals on Spieden Island were busy grazing on the newly growing grass and the foliage is reflecting that autumn is upon us.

Despite the heeling with our fast close hauled sail back down the channel to Friday Harbor, we managed to cook BBQ dinner and were treated to the most magnificent sunset.
