A great sail south out of Cattle Pass

August 10, 2020 – A summers day and we had good wind and current for a beautiful sail tacking all the way down to Cattle Pass. Harbor seals, bald eagles, a great blue heron, black oystercatchers and some very young gull chicks we saw as we drifted pass. Steller sea lions rested leisurely in the sun. The brown pelican is still hanging out on Whale Rocks.
We continued out to Salmon Bank and searched but today there were no minke whales found here.We returned as the current began to turn passing Cattle Point Lighthouse and Goose Island where cormorants manned their nests. Winds increased as we rounded Turn Island for a fun close hauled sail back into Friday Harbor.
