August 14, 2020 – With some decent winds we raised sails. Wing on wing through Turn Island Pass and tacking to sail passed the harbor seals on the reefs and Danger Rock. We ran under close hauled sail down to Deadman Island. Under main sail we were able to drift quietly passed sleeping harbor seals and a bald eagle. We kept sailing to Whale Rocks passing the boisterous Steller sea lions and brown pelican.
With a quick pass of Salmon Bank we sailed back in towards Cattle Point Lighthouse sailing the back eddies up to Goose Island cormorant rookery and then crossing the ebbing tide back out to circle Whale Rocks and sail the currents into Long Island.
With passengers from Long Island, New York we took the opportunity to show them Long Island off Lopez Island. Sailing around the island gave us a variety of light and water conditions. Eagles, harbor porpoise and harbor seals all enjoying paradise. The late afternoon light continued deepening with warm tones into sunset.
