A sail from Presidents Channel to New Channel

October 12, 2020 – North on the flood and today we took Presidents Channel to Lovers Cove. A nice beam reach took us to Waldron Island where we could compare the Douglas fir forests of Orcas Island with the Waldron Island oaks and cedars. From the cliffs of Point Disney we moved out towards much commotion of birds over bait balls hoping a mInke whale might be in the mix. Glassy seas but no sign of a minke today and we continued to Flattop via White Rock and onto Ripple, the Cactus Islands and New Channel. The now ebbing current gave us good speed to head back to Friday Harbor at dusk.
