Half day sail to New Channel

April 16, 2021 – After casting off we headed north along the San Juan shoreline and spotted a nice pair of bald eagles near Pt Caution. Navigating our way through the Wasp Islands harbor seals were resting on the rocks enjoying the low tide. We had a great sail almost the whole way up to Flattop Island National Wildlife Refuge. From there we crossed over to Ripple Island National Wildlife Refuge and down through the Cactus Islands. The flood current moved us quickly through New Channel and down to Green Pt, Spieden Island. Here we found two Steller sea lions sunning themselves high up in the grass with another climbing his way up, as well. It’s quite unusual (but pretty cool) to see any sea lions resting in the grass when they’re normally along the shoreline.
