Sail to Spieden and a distant view of orcas in Canada

April 17, 2021 – A relaxing sail with harbor seals and a common loon through the Wasp Islands, and sailing the shoreline of Jones Island and Flattop Island. Drifting passed the aspen grove of Ripple Island and through the Cactus Islands and along the shoreline of Spieden Island.

We were monitoring the progress of Biggs/Transient orcas, T124A’s and T124D’s, northbound in Haro Strait. We decided to shoot from Spieden to the border to catch a glimpse. They were half a mile on the Canadian side and through binoculars we watched them travel. It sure will be nice when Canada will open the Canadian waterway to boaters again. Our return route was via Sentinel Island and the south side of Spieden Island seeing Mouflon sheep, bald eagles and Steller sea lions.
