Biggs Orcas T123’s by Turn Pt

May 13, 2021 – Northbound and after sailing through the Wasp Islands picked up a report of orcas Westbound in Spieden Channel. We picked up the pace sailing the East side of Jones to Green Point where we passed the Steller Sea Lions. We noticed that the Stellers remaining at Green Point are large males without the young ones and probable females we see at Whale Rocks.

The Biggs orcas were heading for Turn Point and so after a brief pause to drift though the reflective waters on New Channel we cut up through Johns Pass on a short cut to the North side of Stuart. We met the T123’s near Turn Point Lighthouse where they were still making a decision on which way to go next. We were able to drift alongside as they turned into the current and headed across the border to Moresby, Canada. Leaving them at the dotted line on the chart we headed back to Lovers Leap to cruise the South side of Stuart and return by way of New Channel, the Cactus Islands and Flattop National Wildlife Refuge.
