June 2, 2021 – North into the sunshine. The colors of the forest, the cedar, Douglas firs and Madrone, really popped today as we cruised passed Point Caution. Raising sails for a beam reach to the Wasp Islands cutting through Nob Island listening to excited banter of black oystercatchers. Passing Low Island and Yellow island where harbor seals were hauled out warning in the sun. Wing on wing downwind towards Green Point and then a fast beam reach to Flattop Island National Wildlife Refuge. In the tranquility of the lee of the island the high pitched whistles of pigeon guillemots resounded under the layered cliff face. They plopped into the emerald colors in a sizable group – nesting season is clearly on. Once back out in to the Southerly we sailed on to White Rock where harbor seals were hauled out and then rounded the rock for a fast sail to Point Disney. We were scanning for a Minke whale who has been sighted here recently. Rounding out under the impressive cliffs of Point Disney and we sailed South across Presidents Channel returning by way of Spring Pass and the narrow picturesque pass between Coon and McConnell Island before fast close hauled sail to Point Caution.
