July 13, 2021 – Pick up at Odlin Park, Lopez Island. There was a search for orcas in Rosario Strait after an early morning tug boat report. We decided to catch the wind for a beam reach to Peavine Pass and Rosario Strait. Fog hung over the east side of Blakely giving a magical appearance. We headed north towards the Peapod Rocks but just as we reached them the orcas were found near the Cone Islands. Changing course we met them near Toe Island at the top of Cypress Island. It was the T37A’s (minus T37A1) and they zig zagged their way north. We left them to visit the Peapod Rocks and rejoined them later as they traveled parallel to Lummi Island. After a nice view we continued our trip to check out the wildlife on the Sisters including harbor seals, black oystercatchers and bald eagles. We then visited the coastline of Orcas Island to Lawrence Pt seeing steep cliffs, old grove forests and bald eagles. We hugged the Orcas shoreline to stay out of the fast flood current enroute back to Lopez for the drop off.
