Sailing south to Salmon Bank and finding a minke whale

July 22, 2021 – Half day sail south taking the narrow channel behind Turn Island State Park passing snoozing harbor seals and cutting inside of Griffin Bay to avoid the flooding current. Cormorants were busy on their nests and many Glaucous wing gull chicks were standing around all over on Goose Island. We checked out the Steller sea lions on Whale Rocks and circled Long Island where a bald eagle stood nearby its nest. On Salmon Bank we were happy to find a minke whale cruising the bank. We made fast time back riding the flood current back to Friday Harbor.
