July 20, 2022 – South out of Cattle Pass. We met a humpback whale identified as BCX1965 on Salmon Bank. We had some great views before breaking off to cross over MacArthur Bank and enjoy the beauty of the south Lopez coastline. Other wildlife highlights included bald eagles (with vocals on Turn Island), harbor seals with pups, cormorants, pigeon guillemots, rhinoceros auklets, Steller sea lions, and a great blue heron. Plus stunning views of Mt Baker, the Olympic Mountains and Mt Rainier. We also spotted a sea lion with an entanglement scar – possibly one that was recently helped to free him from the entanglement. We’ve sent our photo to the stranding network.
