August 7, 2022 – After exiting Friday Harbor we drifted behind Turn Island State Park passing many harbor seals hauled out on the rocks. Keeping out of the flood current we motor sailed in the back eddie inside Griffin Bay to make our way to Cattle Pass. Goose Island was busy with gulls and cormorants protecting their chicks. On Salmon Bank we found a minke whale named Trotsky II. After many great views including a surfacing with Mt Baker in the background, we brought out a cake to celebrate a special birthday. Following the birthday treat we made our way back in towards Whale Rocks to see the Steller sea lions. More harbor seals were hauled out by Deadman Island and a pair of bald eagles were hanging out near Kings Pt – one was busy eating lunch while the other looked on from above.
