August 16, 2022 – A great sail as we headed south out of Cattle Pass where we found lots of birds including cormorants, grebes, murres, rhinoceros auklets, harlequin ducks, On Whale Rocks we saw Steller sea lions and a rare visitor – a brown pelican. Out on Salmon Bank we found a minke whale foraging amongst the birds and the brown pelican was flying to and fro looking for lunch. The kids had a fun adventure driving the tender as we made our way to Lopez Island near Iceberg Pt for a quick shore excursion on the beach. After rock skipping and getting our feet wet in the cold water we got back onto the sailboat and cut through the pass by Deadman Island and found a bald eagle and lots of harbor seals napping. Our passengers took turns on the helm as we made our way back to Friday Harbor.
