August 17, 2022 – Another epic adventure. We had a nice sail down San Juan Channel towards Cattle Pass and along the islands off the coast of Lopez. When we reached Iceberg Pt we hugged the coastline and picked up the pace to catch up with a couple Biggs/Transient orcas coming south in Rosario Strait. We caught up to siblings T77C and T77D southeast of Smith and Minor Islands just as they stopped to hunt a harbor seal. The orcas continued south and we changed course to catch up with more orca including the T65A’s (minus T65A5) and T77 with T77E who were northbound most of the day from Admiralty Inlet and were near Eastern Bank. We thought the two siblings may change course to join up with the others because that group included their mother and youngest sibling, but they all had other plans. The T65A’s and T77’s were heading northwest in the wrong direction for us so we had to call it after some nice views and make tracks back towards home. While on Salmon Bank we spotted a group of forage fish leaping out of the water perhaps being corralled by larger fish or diving birds beneath the surface. A minke whale gave us some great close views as it milled and foraged on the bank.
