September 18, 2022 – After picking up our passengers we headed south towards Cattle Pass with news of a family of Biggs/Transient orcas known as the T60’s plus T2B were eastbound from Hein Bank. We hugged the Lopez coastline down to Deadman Island to see the harbor seals hauled out before checking out the sea lions on Whale Rocks. We met the orcas near the bottom of Salmon Bank. They were split into two groups. We had a brief look at T60 with T60F and T60G before hanging out with T2B and T60C. A couple miles away were T60D and T60E closer to Discovery Island but they were trending north up Haro Strait. After T2B and T60C finished hunting they passed by our boat and T2B did a huge spy hop. This was definitely a highlight for the day and one of the coolest moments of the year for us. The orcas headed inshore towards Hall Island working their way through the kelp beds possibly hunting before going east along Lopez Island. T60 and the other two offspring were a couple miles ahead leading the way. We continued our journey to circumnavigate Lopez cutting through Thatcher Pass and back to Orcas Island to drop off passengers.
