June 16, 2023 – Today we had a special memorial sail honoring a local sailor known as “Red” from Friday Harbor. With the new moon approaching and strong flood currents and good winds we had a great sail. We sailed along the Shaw Island coastline cutting behind Canoe island as our passengers had a champagne toast and tossed flowers overboard while sharing stories. After noticing an eagle on their nest at Upright Head we met the T36 matriline of Biggs/Transient orcas heading to Blakely Shoal and out Peavine Pass. We circled Obstruction Island to return sailing North of Flat Point to Friday Harbor in one tack at speed just passed the max flood – quite a ride. And the sun came through coming into the harbor to mark a beautiful days sail.
