June 30, 2023 – Today we scooted our sail earlier on account of Biggs/Transient orcas known as the T65A’s (minus T65A5) plus T77 with T77E northbound from Friday Harbor. Just yesterday they were down by Seattle. It took us a bit of time to catch up, but finally met the whales near Battleship Island. The whales were split in two group, T65A with T65A3 and T65A6 and the others T77 with T77E, T65A2 and T65A4 spread about a mile or more apart. The first group of orcas traveled northwesterly towards Mandarte Island while the others headed towards Gooch Island. They all joined up around Forrest Island following three big breaches by 16 year old T65A3. An awesome sight to see! We left the orcas traveling Northeast by Moresby Island to sail around the north side of Stuart Island. Seas were calm and glassy in places and so serene. We cut through the pass by Ripple Island and worked our way through New Channel. Winds increased in San Juan Channel giving us a fast close-hauled sail down the channel back to Friday Harbor.
