July 10, 2023 – After leaving Friday Harbor we scooted north quickly on account of a family of orcas (T65B’s) between Waldron and Sucia Island pointed down President Channel. We sailed alongside the beautiful, steep forested coastline of Orcas Island passing harbor seals and bald eagles along the way. As we reached Lovers Cove the orcas had finished milling and made their way in the opposite direction to wrap around Sucia Island putting themselves out of range for our half day sail. So with that we changed course to sail across President Channel and hugged the Waldron shoreline down to Pt Disney.
At White Rock there were a pair of bald eagles and several harbor seals moms with brand new pups. From here we sailed to Gull Rock and to Flattop Island. More harbor seals with pups were present. Pupping season has officially begun! On our return we hugged the San Juan shoreline as we pointed into the wind and white caps back to the harbor.
