April 3, 2024 – Today we saw lots of wildlife on our sail including frolicking deer outside Friday Harbor, many bald eagles including about 20+ eagles feeding on a seal carcass on Ripple Island, a Peregrine falcon, Biggs/Transient orcas T65 and son T63 notoriously known as “Chainsaw”, harbor seals, harbor porpoise, Steller sea lions, black oystercatchers, and various sea birds. Light winds, strong currents.
T65 and T63 were trucking northbound in Haro Strait when we met them. Her daughter’s family, the T65B’s, had been nearby at Henry Island, but took Spieden Channel meeting them later north of Waldron Island. Additionally the T49A’s had been in Boundary Pass traveling slowly eastbound and they, too, met up with the others north of Waldron. After their brief rendezvous T65, T63 and T65B’s went north towards East Point and the T49A’s continued east. Our route visited Flattop Island National Wildlife Refuge, New Channel, Turn Point Lighthouse, south side of Spieden Island to Green Point and through the Wasp Islands.
