A foggy sail south to meet Humpback Whale BCY0983 “Aerie”

July 27, 2024 – We met a bald eagle eating something on a rock outside Friday Harbor. Continued inside Turn Island admiring the harbor seals hauled out on the low tide. We sailed and tacked our way down to a fog bank and then hugged the coastline of Lopez Island down to Cattle Pass. Out to Whale Rocks still in the fog watching the Steller sea lions having a good time. We crossed Salmon Bank looking out for minke whales and had word of a humpback whale heading east from Middle Bank towards Cattle Pass. Set a course for Middle Bank and met the humpback whale, BCY0983 “Aerie”, just over the Canadian border circling the bank. Put the hammer down to head for home passing the cormorants on Goose Island then cutting inside Griffin Bay to escape the ebb current.
