A Half Day Sail South with a Minke Whale

August 22, 2024 – A southerly sail began with a drift around Turn Island. A family of raccoons was busy foraging including a mother with 3 pups. Harbor seals were hauled out resting and bald eagles watched us sail by. We passed by more harbor seals on Goose Island and nesting gulls and cormorants. The Steller sea lions were entertaining as usually on Whale Rocks. On Salmon Bank we found a minke whale foraging. She is one we’ve known for years with a nick on the leading edge of her dorsal fin. With many surfacings we had some really great views. On our return we rode the fast flood current back to Friday Harbor.
